It seems to me that this is a perfect forum to discuss the recent changes that Tribe has made. I know we have all felt the effects of these changes, either personally or through our friends. Given Jensen's explorations of ties between hatred and economics, among other things, I wonder how readers of Jensen view Tribe's actions through Jensen's models.
For my part, it seems that Tribe is distancing itself from the people who formed its foundation, and telling them that they are no longer welcome. One of the things I appreciated so much about tribe when I first joined was the tremendous variety of of people and viewpoints available here. I feel that the recent changes have dilluted that variety, and also made tribe a less open forum for discussion.
I know that each of us has busy lives, but I think this is a time for this particular tribe to become more vocal. Being interested in the underlying causes of actions such as these gives us a unique perspective in terms of trying to make a difference. I'd like to know what each of you thinks about Tribe's position, and how you see (or have seen) these changes effecting tribe.

Re: Changes and consequences
Thu, December 29, 2005 - 10:01 PMI assume you are talking about the new TOU and flagging?
I am not seeing the grave impacts others perceive. Personally, it hasn't effected me much besides wasting some of my time to make my photos public again. It's sad that people left but my participation on Tribe is voluntary and when it no longer meets my needs I will also leave.
I am disheartened that people so freely accuse Tribe of being Nazis or Fascists, I understand hyperbole but I think such inaccurate characterizations dilute the meaning of those vicious philosophies.
I'd be interested to hear others' perspectives on this issue.

Re: Changes and consequences
Thu, December 29, 2005 - 11:06 PMI was thinking specifically of the "community flagging" that has been instituted. I think that sets something of a dangerous precendent, as it can be used for revenge, intimidation, and censorship of unpopluar views (among other things). I understand and sympathize with tribe's position, but I also think they have made some mistakes in how they have approached solving potential problems.
Tom, you have made some good points here, particularly in pointing out the inappropriateness of comparing tribe to the Nazis and Fascists. Thanks for responding.
